Linux has been growing as a platform for gaming in 2026 and beyond.

Cod4 actually works more smoother on Linux , with more fps, using latest proton and dxvk. Its almost good to go.

I think generally just improving proton and linux support should be kept in mind for development.
One issue i got is that sometimes on quitting from a server, i use the menu, crashes the game.

I’m using GE or CachyOS protons, never had that before.

One suggested improvement:
Add .sh install script in addition to .bat script for installation.
Script is meant to be installed to users desired prefix ( designis that the user will be using something like a proton script to launch the game, which im sharing)

There is already an exe installer for cod4x: [Cod4x Client and Server Files](https://cod4x.ovh/t/cod4x-client-and-server-files/24)

I was referring to the .bat script.
We could have a .sh script there for our prefix

Waste of time, you can run the .exe in the wineprefix, done.

There is no bat script anymore. There is an exe installer.

I can confirm that game crashing bug happens when exiting a server with a mod, very frequently.
Initially it wasnt that frequent , but now it is much more frequent, almost each time.. This happens using the menu quit button , not the /disconnect command

Using latest proton GE. Although i am using fps challenge patch 21.5 hotfix . But i dont think/its unlikely the logic or whatever for that part would have been changed.

I will debug it and hopefully we can fix it

Another potential improvement which i had in mind (idk if this is done already or not): But implementing the hardware ID used by cod4x for Linux, like actual HWID for Linux, so that linux players are also hardware identifiable outside of proton prefix. Which i currently assume where the HWID is derived from, and reinstalling of the prefix will result in new HWID.

The game crashing issue was apparently very tenacious.

Had to reinstall my game using a different installation source and now its fixed.
Also exclusively using proton GE with wayland only mode, instead of Xwayland also has helped
