COD4 launcher not running - Client Impure\Unknown Publisher

Hi all. I’ve been running Cod4x (Original install via disc) for sometime now without issues until recently when windows detects CoD4x as an unknown publisher and the MP client showed the “COD4x Launcher will close now. Restart CoD4 if needed.” followed by a “iw3mp.exe.########.impure” file being created every time I try to run it.

I’ve read about the same issue posted on Discord (27/11/2024) but mine is persisting. I’m running Win 10 pro and turned off my firewall as mentioned in the other post. I’ve tried reinstalling COD4 from disc (original) and patching it up to 1.7. Opened MP (As Admin) and tried joining a CoD4x server to initiate the CoD4x client installation. Installation is successful and I restart CoD4 but I received the same “Launcher will close now” notice and an impure file is created.

I’ve also tried installing the CoD4x client manually with a fresh install and as admin but then CoD4 MP flash screen opens, closes and hangs in task manager until I close it.

Any assistance would be appreciated. I have reached a dead end. :crazy_face:

Problem solved. It was indeed my anti-virus (BitDefender) that was causing the issue.

I initially had my firewall and shield turned off when trying to install cod4/cod4x with the problem persisting. I then uninstalled my anti-virus and tried again and it worked. So BitDefender was not working correctly. Firewall and shield is now enabled with exceptions set for cod4.
