Issues seeing LAN server

ISSUE: Unable to see LAN gungame server up, nor can join it through connect in console.

First time setting things up, but not servers in general. Have CoD4x installed on client, am able to see server master list.

I have not done any port forwarding as I’m trying to keep it on LAN. Also, only let firewall exceptions for each of the applications (client and server), and that’s it on that part.

Have CoD4x server folder with files, mods, configs, server.cfg in the main folder, fastdl nginx server, etc. Set firewall rule to allow apps both CoD4 client and server.

I’ll post some images and server.cfg file in here.

Made a “gungame_server” shortcut with the following launch parameters:
+set dedicated 1 +set net_ip 192.168.1.114 +set net_port 28960 +set fs_game mods/gungame +set rcon_password admin123 +exec server.cfg +map_rotate

I can launch the the server .exe and ultimately get this in server console:
Steam: Server connected successfully
GameServer is not VAC Secure!

What’s odd is, every time I have the server up, I can’t refresh the master list anymore. Well, it’ll refresh but I won’t see anything. Soon as I take the server down, I can refresh and see the master list. This is a side note that’s odd.

But pretty much can’t see my LAN server in the list, nor can I join through console. I’ll post some things that may help troubleshoot.

don’t use 28960 as your lan server port and see if that helps.

I have issues with that port as it is the generic game port.

Port 28960 works fine for me on my local.

Maybe try not specifying the IP and see if that makes a difference.
Also, are you checking under Local servers in the in-game browser? Also check your filters are not hiding the server.

Looks like your suggestion worked. Changing ports suggested didn’t seem to change things. Then I tried removing IP & PORT from the server.cfg file, didn’t work. Then I tried removing IP & PORT from the custom shortcut parameter, deleting “+set net_ip 192.168.1.114 +set net_port 28960”, and that worked! I went back and added the IP & PORT to server.cfg after, and it still worked. Not sure why this was an issue?

I do have one last question though. I was under the impression that setting a webserver and hosting mods would make downloads much faster. I have one setup using nginx, I’ll put up a photo. Since I can join the server now, was able to test it but it seems I’m still getting like 20kb/s download speed, which I think is the normal speed for dedicated server downloads. In my server.cfg above, I set the client download settings you may be able to take a look. Any ideas what may be going on? Thank you.

Never tested setting up fastdl for a local server so cannot be sure if that works but I guess it should. Make sure the same files from the fastdl server are also in the server’s directory

Ok found out the problem. Idk somewhere I read that the server.cfg file had to be in <server_folder>/main/ , but I noticed my server name would never change. Or anything really. So I just decided to change the server.cfg file that’s in the actual mod folder that I’m using. That seemed to do it and it works fine now! Just writing things up in case people in future look it up.

Ah yes for mods the cfg has to go in mod folder.
