Im playing COD on a fresh Windows XP pc that I built. I updated to 1.7 and joined a server that prompted to install cod4x (currently on 21.1). Ive been playing using cod4x for a week or so now with no issues. I tried to play last night after taking a few days break and now I get an error that says:
“Steam is not installed. In order to play on CoD4x18 servers you have to install and run steam”.
Any ideas why its asking me to install steam now? I see there is a new version of cod4x. I will have to see how I can update given that the cod4x launcher doesnt run on win xp.
And you actually hooked it up to the internet?
Anyway, not sure what you changed that your setup stopped working, but the message you’re getting means the game cannot derive a player ID for you, thus it requires you to use steam to connect to servers.

Yes, there is no issue with Win XP connected to the internet when it’s behind a proper firewall. Its not like Im using it as my main pc to surf the web.

I am a mac user who playing cod4 with wine. Previously this worked perfectly, but today i got this steam not installed error. Actually im using a cracked version. also i dont have steam. Any help?
