Suddenly I got an error message when I tried opening COD4 multiplayer. I didn’t do anything to mess with the game files and this just started happening randomly.
I found this thread where someone had the same problem but none of the solutions worked for me.
what happens is when I open COD4 multiplayer there is a popup saying “Call of Duty 4 X launcher will close now. restart cod4 if needed” & I’m not able to get to the MP screen at all.
This also creates an IMPURE file in the cod4 directory every time I try to launch the game.
I also tried uninstalling the game and deleting all the files in appdata. I tried deleting all the registry entries + game & mod files + a fresh install of cod4 & 21.1 update. I tried running iw3mp.exe as an admin and set up admin mode via compatibility mode. but still no luck.
Everyone I seen who had it fixed was their antivirus. Specifically Bitdefender, my friend totally just uninstalled it because he couldn’t whitelist it.
Thank you so much. It was Bitdefender that caused the problem. I disabled the BD shield and it worked like a charm. couldn’t find the solution because the FAQs do not specify the error message in text and it does not show up in search results.
